The University of Hohenheim was founded in 1818 in response to the "Year Without a Summer" and the resulting devastating famine. Since then, our mission at the University of Hohenheim has been to develop solutions to social challenges on the basis of scientific knowledge that will also benefit future generations in the long term and reliably. Approaches that correspond to our current understanding of sustainability have been a central founding principle of the University of Hohenheim from then until today. The topic is not only a guiding theme in teaching and research, but also strengthens our culture of sustainability in all areas of activity at the university.
